Sounds like you might have a bent part. Clean the gun really well, and then examine the movement of the grip safety carefully to see if it is binding.
Another possibility is tha the gun might have aftermarket grips that do not fit well and may be binding on the grip safety... If this is the case, a little judicious grinding with a small file, or a dremel tool on the offending left grip interior where the binding is taking place should put you back in business in short order...
