The chemicals used for tanning the leather can cause rust on pistol if stored for long periods of time. I have also seen Lugers stored for years in a holster with no ill effect, but I don't recommend it. If you must store the pistol in the holster, here is what I would do. Clean the pistol, wipe a good oil preservative such as Clenzoil, or RIG on the pistol and LOOSLY wrap in Saran Wrap. By loosly wraping it, it will still not trap any moisture. After wraping the pistol, it can be placed in the holster and not hurt the bluing. I do not stor my pistols in the holster, but I do keep the spare magazine and the tool in their approriate pouch. I also oil the mag or tool and wrap them before putting them away. Hope this helps and is my opinion from doing this for years with no problems.
