Hell RK,

I am no expert, but here goes :

With the magazine in the pistol, the magazine pushes the whole device more outward, to the left of the pistol side. This allows the tab behind the trigger in the trigger well to clear the back of the trigger so the trigger can be pulled.

When the magazine is removed, the "spring" nature of the device springs the device more into the side of the frame. This causes the tab behind the trigger to fall into place directly behind the trigger, thus preventing the trigger from being pulled back.

If you switch to the Unit Markings section in the Forum, you will see my post and photos of my newly acquired police luger. Yes my gun has the safety intake, but was deactivate by having the tab behind the trigger filed down... <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />
