Having said that, the Portuguese were early and enthusiastic and consistent adherents of the Luger, They started with the '06, and went through about 3 variants of that; then went to the Mauser 1934/06, then went to the 1943 version.
I gotta say, the 1934/06 GNR, with that massive crest inscribed on the chamber and that elegant tapered barrel, along with the wonderful saddle leather holster...well, for my money, its in the top ten for elegance.
