Defense of Wargaming
I'm a Vietnam era vet that did not see combat
(six years as a Navy ET).
I'm also a pilot and warbird fan and (very occasional) flyer.
I've played several of the WWII combat flight simulators
back to the 1990 Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.
I feel that some of these games can give you at least a
vague clue as to what it was like.
I've also been around "Doom" and "Castle Wolfenstine".
These are not any kind of simulation.
Some of the better WWII ground simulations include things like freezing to death in the snow.
I can fully understand someone that has "been there and
done that" being uninterested in combat simulations.
For some of the rest of us, simulations can give some feel
for the times without dying.
