Interarms, through their outlet "Ye Olde Hunter", sold a large number of 1911A1 pistols about 1960 that came from Britain and it's quite possible yours was one of them. In order for them to be sold to Interarms, the guns had to go through the British proof houses and that's how they got the British civilian proofs. Interarms sold them BRAND NEW, in the original wrapping, for $39.95! I know because my father bought one and when he ordered it he told them to send him a Colt or return his money. He got his Colt and I clearly recall the day it came by REA Express and we opened the box for the first time. It was made in 1943 and it's still in the family. They also were selling Itheca's and Remington Rand's..... all for the same price. Because those guns were civilian proofed doesn't rule out Lend Lease as far as I know.
