The advices on cleaning and preserving are all o.k., but there is one thing missing:

Get a handgun rod ( brass if you have any chance: Dewey, Hoppe´s?, Marble´s, Kleenbore, even Outers now uses 8/32 thread size I think ) and BRASS jags. The Tipton set from Cabela´s is the best of the best, RIG´s 4 jag set will do. Use a BORE GUIDE, plastic or brass.

Coat a cleaning patch with good gun oil ( Break Free, Rig 7, Firepower MP 10? ) which claims to prevent rust.

If patch comes out dirty, don´t pull back in bore. Just use new patches ( oiled! ) until clean, then use oiled patch and go both ways several times. Put gun against something with muzzle down, let excessive oil run out for some days. THEN wipe down outside and store gun.

An air tight box is only good with drying agent in it, if enough from it its very good. An air conditioned room should be drier than a cellar ...

Preserve that gun. Keep it!

Usually I end with "Good shooting!" In your case: "Take care"
