Saw this comment in the 1997 edition of "German Small Arms Markings" by Joachin Gortz & Don Bryans on p134 about the c/X stamp. The short paragraph is as follows: "Authorization of small arms inspectors to act on the sovereign's behalf was indicated by a stylized king's crown surmounting the initial letter of the inspector's family name. In case of identical initial letters, the junior inspector had to use one of the rarer letters, like "X" or "Y".
