Default 1913 Commercial/Military, s/n 70473, Triple c/x

Recently, I acquired this rare DWM triple c/x variation, sometime called a 1913 Commercial/Military or 1914 Commercial Army. I had been looking for one of these for some time. The ink had barely dried on the bank check for a new roof when it came along.

This forum has several excellent threads and in FAQ that discuss what is known factually about this pre-WW1 luger. (see P-08 Military Lugers; 1908 Commercial-Army Luger, 02-19-2005), Also, there is some discussion by Jan Still on page 26 and in Central Powers by Jan Still on page 63.

This example is S/N 70473 has three c/x inspection stamps with the army test proofs on right side of receiver. Gun has an unrelieved sear bar and no commercial proofs. Army test proof is also seen on left breech block and on the barrel top right location. S/N 70473 originally came with a hold-open and stock lug. Under side of barrel has full serial number "70473" with halos observed. Sideplate, take down bolt, and barrel lug are numbered in the commercial style with last two digits, those being "73". Frame still retains the spur at the base of the coiled spring. Not numbered to the gun are the stocks which are stamped "54" on inside of both. Mag is not original also.

This DWM Commercial/Military, s/n 70473, is listed on p63 in Central Powers Pistols by Jan Still, copyright 2007. His estimate for numbers produced was 100 for triple c/x with stock lug and hold open. This serial number was not known in time for the Imperial Powers release, copyright 1991/1994' survey p26. If you would like some additional pictures of other parts of the gun not shown, let me know. Hope this thread adds to the understanding of the triple crown discussion.
