Re: Russian ammo question
Matt,
I had been using the Chinese 7.62 x 39 in my AK-47 and I knew it was corrosive, so I cleaned accordingly; no problems.
I bought some of the Wolf ammo that was labeled as non-corrosive. After a nice firing session, I cleaned the bore and the pistol rod housing with Hoppe's #9 as a normal cleaning. On Sunday afternoon, I pulled the rifle out and was looking at it and decided to look at the bore. Hey, what is this crud in the bore? I pulled it down and inside the piston housing there was rust on the surfaces where the paint had come off. I immediatly inspected the bore closer and there was corrosion inside the barrel. I did a full cleaning with the old smelly GI stuff and you should have seen the crud come out of the barrel. Fortunantly, the bore is chrome lined so it did not damage it any.
This only makes me more aggrevated that I CANNOT believe anything the Russians say! The ammo is good, surefire, and resonably accurate for an AK, but I will clean the rifle from now on as if the ammo is corrosive. I have never used any other Russian stuff, so I don't know it will be like, but I don't trust the Russians with anything they have to say.
