In the 4th grade our assignment was to write an essay about the local castle fortress and it's defensive design.

The first one is about the daylight cycles and we noted sunrise and sunset for the year and then graphed it out.

But, I just remember that graph paper.

It turns out that after the 4th grade, we had to make a choice of continuing along an academic education path or going into the vocational training (more hands on trades). I don't know if it is still like that, but their schooling was about 1-2 years ahead of ours in American schools. The school was trying to help us decide which path we would choose for the 5th grade.

When people ask me if I can still speak German, I tell them I can. But, my vocabulary is limited to a what a 10 year old would need to know. It's a great language, though, very orderly and predictable spelling. I did learn the old fashioned script, which helps out when I'm studying suffix characters and trying to read these old hand written texts and log books.
