My best friends dad was a tank commander in the European campaign (and spoke Italian); but he brought home a Nambu LMG. We found it in the basement rafters when we were about 15. Somehow his dad noticed that we'd found it, and he took it someplace and buried it (so he told the son). We never found it.

Ive heard similar tales on various Forums over the years, so there may have been some interchange of souvenirs among returning vets.
