Chris, the wood grips are proper for your 1940. If you are absolutely convinced your wood grips are replacement and you don't want Hugh Clark to attempt to reform them, then I suggest you try to find some original grips stamped with E/655. They should either have no numbers or the last two digits of the serial number of your Luger.

BTW, nice looking Luger!
