I am not sure about the Luger (have forgot, although a long time ago there was a thread on this), but not holding some semi-auto pistols securely in your hand will result in failures to feed. The gun requires the push back to be slowed by a firm grip.

Is it possible that your one handed grip, was uh, limper than a two handed?

As I said, I don't remember if this pertains to the Luger, but I bet it does?
