Don Hallock - Friend, Mentor, Warrior
This is sad news for our Luger Collecting Community! Don was a major influence on many of us and kept our community informed of the sometimes little known yet tremendously important aspects of Luger collecting. A great friend and mentor to many of us! He was always willing to make himself available to discuss any topic about Lugers and created an excitement about Lugers that made you want to learn more! As Jerry Burney pointed out, he left behind a legacy for the Community through his book, the Mauser Parabellum. But those conversations will be missed!
Don was also part of the Warrior clan. Don was a USAF combat veteran of the Korean War who started his career as a B29 Turret Gunner. As a young E6 in theater, he volunteered for and was accepted to Flight School where he was trained as a B29 Pilot. He returned to the Korean Theater as a B29 Pilot being assigned to "the best crew he ever worked with." Unfortunately he could not get by his past - his crew's nickname for him was 'Sarge'. Indicative of the person that he was - always taking care of others! Another Warrior that will be missed!
