I moved your post to the P-08 Military Luger forum (since the code byf is a military production code).
The '42' over the chamber indicates the year of manufacture - 1942. The byf code on the toggle indicates the company that produced this Luger (Mauser).
Your pistol is a "mismatch" only if the two digits of the serial number that are placed on various parts do not match the last two digits of the full serial number (including the suffix character) that should appear on the front of the grip frame.
The full serial number (less the suffix character) will also appear on the left front of the upper receiver on military models.
