Bolo is a shortened version. I'll let others who know more fill in the details, but for me, at least, the bolo lacks the pizzazz of the C-96.
There are a lot of variations of the C96 and I would highly recommend that you "learn up" on them before you reach for your money. There are specialists who hang out here and no doubt forums dedicated to the C96 that will help you along.
But I share your fascination with them, they are an important part of world history. I had a great re-worked shooter for many years until my son decided he wanted it worse.
