Jerry B,
MY pleasure to tell you a bit about Canadian Firearms Laws...........
Weapon Classification:
Prohibited: Any handgun with a barrel lenght of 105mm & less + all 25 & 32 Cal Handguns.......( some exceptions like Walther's GSP Target pistol ) But an old S&W 32 Long with a 6 in bbl is Prohibited.......( This classification was put forward to eliminate ``small hideout`` guns from the market........ )
Restricted: Handguns with a barrel lenght of 106mm & more.......( for clarification, a military P08 is Prohibited due to it's 4 inch ( 102mm ) barrel........
Assault Rifles, Converted ( SA only ) military weapons & genuine Auto weapons ( like your Class III ) are.........of course Prohibited........
Permit Classification:
An individual can have various permit Class to possess weapons from different categories. It is all based on the ``Grandfathered`` system, aka: you must had this kind of weapon registered to you at the reference date which still allows you to buy more of the same class. Prohibited Class Handguns reference date is Feb 15th 1995, Autos in Jan 1st 1978.......get it...
So if a new guy wants to buy a P08, he cannot !! Unless he gets the barrel changed for a longer one...
So what history to come will show is a dissapearance of those ``Prohibited Weapons`` from the population as they can only be transfered by means of ``last will`` to direct descendents ( kids ) or be transfered to individuals having the appropriate weapons class....( the ``young bunch`` of those are early 30s at this time ).......
I hope this little info gives you the picture........
MARK
I'm one of those having the Prohibited Class permits.........
