I had noticed the screw in the lug but was too tired to realize what it signified...

I'm surprised that the thin metal of the backstrap would contain enough threads to actually hold that add-on lug and buttstock on. Maybe silver-soldered as well? Odd that the add-on lug wasn't 'blued' to match the rest of the gun...
