Yes, Bill- the Navy backstrap marking is etched and was applied some 10 to 15 years after the luger was made.

Navy gripstrap markings were applied by several navy entities, Nordsee and Ostsee on these artillery models, Wilhelmshaven and Kiel on earlier ones during WWI, and maybe others.
