From my limited knowledge on Portuguese Navy Lugers.

The Portuguese Navy contract was for 500 Lugers of the 1906 pattern in 9mm with 4" barrel.

They were partially( roughly over half of them) delivered in 1910 with a Crown and Anchor over the chamber. After the 5th October revolution, that got rid of the monarchy, the remaining pistols of the contract were delivered with R.P. (Republica Portuguesa) and anchor over the chamber. During WWI the service pistol was the 1907 Savage. After the war the Navy bought very small numbers of Lugers still of the 1906 pattern from Mauser to complete dotation. These pistols had no markings over the chamber. The majority of the Navy pistols were sold as surplus to the USA during the sixties after the Walther P38 was adopted as the service pistol by all branches of the Armed Forces in 1961.

The 1906 Vergueiro was a rifle. A modified Mauser action in 6.5x58 caliber. All rifles remaining in service were rechambered to 7.92x57 in 1937. The ones that remain in the original caliber were captured by the Germans in Northern Mozambique where a state of war existed even before Germany declared war at Portugal in 1916 (we were neutral until then).
