Germany's modern Imperial era began with the unified German federation at the end of the Franco-Prussian war in 1871. This German empire formally ended November 9, 1918, with the establishment of the German socialist revolutionary government calling itself the Council of People's Commisars. On Dec. 29, 1918, this body began to refer to itself as the Reich's Government. Historically this can be considered the beginning of "Weimar Germany", although the German seat of government did not actually move to the city of Weimar until February 3, 1919.
"Weimar Germany" effectively ended with Hitler's centralization of German government in 1933.
