What they said is that the mags with discs were made by DWM at Swiss request, so that it would be readily apparent that a magazine was inserted.
This would only be of interest to a range officer looking down a line of shooters, IMO.
In use a touch is sufficient.
Likewise, a dab of white or silver paint in a "normal" magazine would serve the same purpose.
When the Swiss set up and began their "own" production, they had decided to eliminate the disc, and did not produce magazines with the metal disc. Quite likely because it was not necessary in the first place, and did cost significantly more to produce.
More decorative than utilitarian, JMHO!
