Different times. The owner(vet) might have gotten the pistol for no money, but not to say he did not pay dearly for it. Or he might have purchased it for a song. The eye of the beholder prevails always, perhaps a piece of Americana to actually be used in days past, could be a lot of stories with it really. You pays your money..........or not.
From the barrel I would guess a 30, but who knows, one can never say never in the gun world. Suspect it has been dropped a time or two.
The rear attached aperture sight is not new in Lugers. The stock(?) attachment is the first for me, perhaps a wire stock affair as noted. I suspect that the front sight is a home brew(?) that at one time had an insert(taller) for the new rear sight enhancement.
Interesting piece from a theoretical point of view.
