Default My New Luger

Hello... I am new to the forum as of yesterday, so be kind, and I hope that this is the correct section to begin as I could not find a "New to Form" section.

I inherited the Luger from my dad who got it from his Uncle Jimmy who came back from WWII with it. Same story as everyone else, I know, but I believe it to be true because great uncle Jimmy said so!

I shot it as a kid in the late fifties and sixties, and it has been used minimally since the sixties! A thorough cleaning has revealed that the hold open spring is missing, and it appears to be a well used gun that should be used rather than preserved.

The top of the receiver is stamped with 1936 and S/42 is on the middle toggle. The SN is 6345 with an 8,S2 under it. There are three marks on the front right of the receiver; two drooped wing eagles, and what appears to be a stick figure eagle with upward reaching arms and downward lines like wing feathers.

I also have what appears to be an original holster with the letters G. B. stamped on the inside of the flap!

Any help in identifying this gun would be appreciated, as it does have sentimental value, and I would like to take it to the gun club and shoot it and talk story!
