I met one of the Smith and Wesson factory gunsmiths at a local event where I had him go over several of my revolvers.

I have never met a gunsmith was as complete a "feel" for the mechanism.

You may have a S&W dealer that participates in their annual on-site event program near you. It would be worth checking with them.

If it's worth the repair, consider sending it to them at the factory.

Jerry Kuhnhausen's shop manuals are the best available for the Smith lockwork. I have a copy that is older than the one mentioned in the above post. It covers things well enough that you might be able to make progress.
