The toggle-action carbine was one of the two projects that Georg Luger was working on during the few years after he left DWM up to 1923. The other was a machine pistol based on the LP 08. General Manuel Mondragon�´s gas cylinder self loading rifle, the Flieger SL Carbine (Mondragon Rifle 08) had not been a success and most military authorities in Germany and Switzerland thought that the future lay in developing the toggle action. Luger�´s toggle action rifle was considered too dangerous as the toggle opened too close to the soldier�´s face.The machine pistol was 9mm and the rifle took the standard S- cartridge ((8x57 mm).
