George did not say that pre-1916 Erfurt mags were un-numbered;
he said "very early" Erfurt mags were not numbered but did have 2 proofs.

True early Erfurt mags were unnumbered with two acceptance stamps but all pre 1916 issue mags were numbered with two acceptance stamps. See the photos below. The spare with this rig was an unnumbered stamped mag."
