I have a Tavor with an 18" barrel, and I must say that I have been extremely impressed with it. Outstanding accuracy (5 shot groups run around 1.5" at 100 yards with ammo that it likes...) and total reliability. I like that it uses readily available AR15 / M16 magazines. Ergonomics are outstanding, at least for me. I can field strip the rifle in about 10 seconds. It uses a gas piston system that keeps the action clean. One of the gentleman I know has one and he hasn't cleaned it in 6,000 rounds, just a little lube, and it still functions....
The only negative that I've found is the trigger pull. As the rifle comes from the factory the trigger pull is around 9-10 pounds. The factory trigger pack has a secondary redundant sear spring that many people simply remove (with no impact on functioning..) then the trigger pull drops to about 7 pounds and reasonable crisp. Certainly usable. I like good triggers and particularly two stage triggers, so I replaced my trigger pack (It takes about 30 seconds to remove and replace the trigger pack...) with a Geissele trigger pack that gives me a two stage excellent trigger with a pull of about 5 pounds. Expensive trigger but worth it to me on a rifle this accurate. One of my shooting friends who has extensive military experience and is a fantastic marksman said "This thing shoots like a laser.".
All in all, my Tavor would be my first choice for a rifle if my life depended on it, besides it is just a really fun rifle to shoot...
