Steve McQueen's jacket in The Great Escape was an original, wartime A2. You are never close enough to be able to read the name strip, but it did belong to someone. That particular jacket had rank insignia removed from the shoulders prior to filming, as the discoloration on each epaulet where the rank insignia once were is obvious.
