See if the registration office will let you keep all the parts that are not "faked" as you are apparently and innocent buyer of the gun... That way you will not lose your entire investment in this gun. Ron Wood's explanation is certainly plausible, but I think there is just as much chance that the gun serial number has been faked. An unfortunate circumstance. My condolences.
You can see that the "m" suffix for the serial number is missing the top portion because the front of the frame has been ground or sanded down to remove the original number.
