I use 'pulls', from Remington 700 or Winchester M70 rifles, in .308 or 30-06, for some of my 30 cal barrels. Some, if I need large diameter for front sight bases, I get from Green Mountain as rifled blanks, in 9mm, .357, 8mm, 30 cal, .256 cal, .22, etc. I've also used blanks from Numrich & Sarco on occasion. Most are 4140 steel. I don't heat treat. I don't believe they need it, and even if I did, I don't have the ovens/enclosures/controlled environment/space required.
