There are a few things to look for so photos of the gun, magzines and holster would help.
The D shows that production had advanced from 0001 up thru 9999 one time with no suffix, then again thru the A block, then B block, etc.
It does stand to logic that the D block came before E or F, but the book guys will have to tell you which blocks, if any, were specifically designated for the police.
There were a couple of extra police safety gadgets that we can look for in photos too.
But regardless, any matching G date gun is a good score.
