Hi, It is made up by parts, but the toggle train looks to be from a rare "K" date Luger made in 1934.

There was a "b" block in the Spring of 1940, so the "8699b" receiver / frame / cannon is all likely from that pistol and period.

The replacement of the toggle train could have happened at any time after it was made, either in the field in Germany or over here.

Sounds like your grandfather was a bit of a raconteur... Perhaps he traded a couple of cartons of Camels for this!
