The Black and White Pilot for the show included the character of "Vladimir Minsk", a Russian POW, as one of the Heroes. Apparently this did not test well at the height of the Cold War and the character never returned when the show was picked up. Newkirk and Lebeau took over Vladimir's tailoring duties.

Subsequently, most Russian characters on the show were portrayed as traitorous, flamboyant, sneaky or just plain kooky
