Hugh,

The work that W&F did on their last Luger design was focused on cost reduction and eliminating manufacturing steps. That is the likely explanation for the change in the profile of the trigger plate.

Since your Luger was made at the time of transition to the later design, it's possible that parts were mixed but I think it's less likely, especially since you found yours with a mismatch.

My side plate does contain the last two digits of the serial number.

Swiss Lugers were regularly maintained and repaired by the Swiss. I don't know if they would mix parts from the different designs in the repair process, or would only replace a trigger plate from new old stock.
