Glenn, this would be the same as if someone combined one of the Thompson "pistols" with a lower from a semi carbine...as long as there are no LEOs hiding behind the bristles of their toothbrush, or if they live in one of the lucky states where it is possible to own a SBR by paying for the tax stamp.
Rich, I know what you mean about the daylight--there's about an 1/8" gap between the lower/front lip of the stick mag and the feed funnel. I call it a funnel because it's shaped like that. The guidance for the round has to incorporate the fact that when the ammo comes off the top of the stick mag, it alternates in left and right offsets, and needs to be guided to center horizontally as well. The rounds do skim across the top of the lip. If it were simply an edge, the case mouth would be snagged, so they're formed/radius-ed out just a tad.
