That's the way the mags are. I have several originals, four of them manufactured by Seymour, to use in my semi. The modified original 30-shot that came with it didn't have its mag catch hole done very well, it didn't lock up very tightly, its lips were bent, and it jiggled and rotated all over the place; and because of this, it would misfeed every time a round was stripped that had been on the left side of the stack. This was NY compliant (pre-ban) when I bought the carbine, but since NY's stupid S.A.F.E. act, all these mags now reside with my son in Ohio. My plan is to chop them down to ten round capacity. I've seen mags thus modified on eBay, but the modification was a terrible job, and I can do way better. Even though Thompson mags are
very numerous, new stashes being discovered all the time, this plan makes orthodox collectors cringe.
