Welcome to the forum, Paul,

Your 1940 Mauser is quite the Luger! It is definitely a collectible. The observations, according to my callow skills, would be honest wear, shows consistency of such in finish and grip condition; mag is, I believe, period correct, so that's good; however the serial number area doesn't look true/round to me. It obviously wasn't force-matched to this pistol!
The Lugers like yours are sought after 1) WWII mystique 2) Stronger shooters, for a couple of reasons 3) They are Lugers! If yours checks out with the community here, it is, conservatively, a $1.5k+ gun+holster, which looks good, too. We'd like to see pics of the mag and holster--you know--all angles and markings/dates. There, that's a start for you; now stay tuned, as many other posts will educate us about your pistol. Enjoy your time on the forum.

D.P.
