Bill, I don't have time to study unit marks..I wish I did! It would be fascinating. George Anderson is one of the best guys I know of for unit marks.
I just look at construction, craftsmanship and techniques for clues. Some things we will never know. Your belt has a LOT of markings on it though! I think the tongue had to be made for just what it is..The hole number, width etc. is unique to a German belt.
I forget who posted it but not long ago a Forum member posted a German photo of a Sattler out in the field with quite a number of leather items piled up for repair. One of the first such photo's I have ever seen!
I suspect a guy like that made up a German combat belt from a captured US belt. I would love to hear this belt tell it's story!
