This little thing has kept the humidity down 30-35% in a 2000 ft2 area, but it goes up to 55-60% quickly if the dehumidifier is out of commission (power outage, stopped up drain line, low on freon etc). In the summer, I just have to open the garage door for a few minutes and it will be 90-95%.

Anywho, Damp Rid will always work, so that's what I use in the gun safe. Checking the bucket now and then is no big deal, I'm there every day to pet my babies anyway.
I have a dehumidifier and I use damp rid. The dehumidifier only cuts in on the occasional instance when the humidity gets really high. Fortunately it does not cut in often. The damp rid I use comes in bags which catch the water. (Don't have to worry about knocking the bucket over.)
