The quality of Japanese military firearms of WW2 vintage always seemed to impress me as being made by convicts in the prison machine shop when no one was looking. 
Ugliest guns on the planet? Maybe... At least IMHO...I have never seen anything uglier (except the "zip" guns made by convicts in the prison machine shop when no one was looking...)
