I too set up a separate account, that I transfer from paypal to my account and then transfer again. HOWEVER, On a person contesting, they minus my account which cost me money at the bank, which is wrong, but I limited my exposure.
I had a thief from down under (New Zealand?), and have sold overseas many times, yet this same person had played the game and ripped off folks. I fought the 'he did not receive', the lady at paypal could look at his feedback (might have been ebay, but essentially same thing), outloud she said, oh, he has a lot of positives with complaints. So, assumed I would get my money (it gets put on hold immediately). So, although he had a track record of saying he had not received he kept my money and I am sure the item. I was mad as hell, and called his local police and reported him. Of course I received one of my only negatives from ebay from him.
I have not said, no overseas sales yet, but I limit what I do sell.
As said above;
1. Ebay is a buyers market - ebay thinks they are the seller
2. Paypal is a forced issue, although you can get around it, I just deal with it - if they start taxing off of it, then I simply will quit using it
3. Ebay is my final choice, will try to sell here, or other boards, gunbroker but to be honest, even with fees, people on the boards are less likely to buy at the higher price you can get on ebay
4. World of difference if you have been a seller or only a buyer, as a seller you see too many difficult folks, so taking a simple picture is not as easy as it sounds.
