I also have another "42" date that has a side plate that is not numbered inside. sn 7152g.

This is occasionally found according to Don Hallock and Joop's book.

Thanks for the pictures. It confirms that blued retention pins were normal (both my 42 date Lugers have them). Also looks like the muzzle is blued too, right?

Process steps must have been simplified this late in production at the factory...
