George, welcome to the forum.

I bought two Lugers years before I really studied. One a buffed artillery and the other a decent but mismatched 1940 42.

So, first thing I suggest is buy books (smartly, not just cheap books

) and second, buy a decent shooter, low end Collectable.

Then choose anera you like

Then, always buy as nice as you can.
