For many years I have assembled the mainspring assy. without pliers by inserting the hook into the spring and pushing the hook through the side of the spring, then screwing the spring onto the hook until it snaps through the closed end loop.

A small pin is used to hold the cone end of the hook and the spring may be rotated by hand.

No cussin, no lost springs, works every time !

Easy no pliers. Easy as That
