You do see them for sale every now and then but seldom with a rig.

This is my opinion, but have heard this before; After the war, most things like belts were used as belts, for machinery, for sewing machines, etc, so they literally were used up or discarded. I would guess that many were burnt by the GI's and civilians in the clean up (gear was gotten rid of).

It has been the habit of many, many dealers over the last 50 years to separate items for higher resale, i.e. extra mags, holsters, tools and I presume belts and such.
