Holy Smokes! I have been away from computers for a while and was not expecting all this. I'll have to read this through a few times and put my questions up after I think on it some, thanks for all the input.

I do already have a 1911 in 9mm,a rock island. No show piece to be certain, but the price was right, its cheap to shoot, and even cheaper with cast reloads, and low down dirt cheap with a marvel type 22 conversion. I figure it would be something to learn and work on. With that in mind, so far so good.

On to the 30 project; The official rock island service/parts page has replacement 9mm barrels right around $50. How much fitting those would take, I would guess not much to get to the factory level of assembly. I figure get a new barrel to fit and work as well as the one in the gun now, then proceed with the project.

And on the ammo front, I have nearly assembled all the tools I need to turn 223 brass to 30 luger brass. I bet few people know that redding cutter heads fit rcbs cutters, and fewer still know that a forster inside reamer (the only inside reamers available as far as I know) will fit the correct redding cutter head. I still need the shell holder plate, but then my rcbs-redding-forster trimmer-reamer will be complete. I even picked up some bullets this weekend, berry 71 gr .312. Barrel measures 310, and the bearing surface is really small, so I think they will work out, if not I have some other ideas for them.
