Assault rifle is a newer term, but I stick with my original comment that it depends on the person's interpretation on what is or is not a assault rifle. And yes, the normal definition is as you said above. That said, it usually includes the definition of a high powered round, and yet NJ says that a M1 carbine is an evil weapon....

Do you want the NJ type laws to be adopted in other states, etc. ?
Remember also, that Saturday night Specials also included 1st generation Colt SSAs.
When we start adopting and using the terminology of the anti gun people we are cutting our own throats.
So when PA decides to ban assault weapons and includes the M1 Garand in the definition, they can, as a part of the rationale, use your, Hugh's and others statements as a part of the basis. After all, even the pro gun people believe and say they are (the evil) assault weapons.
