Bob, There may be a way to determine this. Open the sight by pushing the button on the right side..slide the sight back..on a Navy sight the interior should be in the white. If it is in the white and perhaps either rusty or corroded OK. If it is fire blued or black it has achieved a temperature 5-600 degrees or higher.
